Opponents of the Customs Union
Home » Protivniki tamozennogo soyuzaWhile the nations’ leadership is trying in various ways to establish international relations in all directions, public figures and other individuals of these states voicing a complaint about their policies. Particular dissatisfaction among the public arose the formation of the Customs Union, which allows creating a united economic are.
The value of the Customs Union
On the one hand such response of the community members can be understood. There are not much explicit and unbiased information in the print media that would be worth of such a motivation for integration. The press has always featured headlines, announcing the fact that finally the long awaited event happened, and the Customs Union came into force. Everyone knows that it was not easy but thorny way to reach it, but few people understand why this was necessary. Neither the Government nor anyone else bothered to explain clearly, in particular, to the citizens of Kazakhstan, for which purposes the Customs union has been created and how it affects people.
Blurred, inaccurate information about the advantages of entry of Kazakhstan to the Customs Union has created quite a natural reaction: The public rebelled against the economic coalition of these countries.
Protests
In 2010 the leaders of the National Social Democratic Party "Azat", Communist Party of Kazakhstan and NGO "Alga!" came up with the demand to denounce the agreement on the Customs Union. They argued that the agreements of this kind undermine the sovereignty of Kazakhstan.
Open letters to the leadership of the country with appeal to refuse to participate in this coalition began to appear in the Internet.
Veterans of the December uprising in 1986 in their letter referred to the entry into the Customs Union as "the beginning of the territorial, economic and political colonization of Kazakhstan" and demanded "cancellation of agreements concluded covertly behinds the people's back so-called" customs agreements with Russia. “In order to prevent the country’s enslavement, the veterans insist on the establishment of a commission, which will consist of lawyers, economists, financiers, politicians and other public figures. The task of this committee will be to investigate the reasons which forced the authorities of the country voluntarily "destroy the independence of our Homeland."
This is not the only message of this kind, which can be found in the vast Kaznet space. People's Democratic Movement "Protection of Independence" issued a statement which was signed by 200 politicians, journalists and social activists. The most interesting thing in this letter is that it signed not only by the opposition but also ardent supporters of the Nazarbayev’s Policy.
At the heart of their message are the words of the Secretary of State of the Union State of Russia and Belarus Pavel Borodin, who said that the Customs Union - is to restore to the new realities of the Soviet Union. "Protection of Independence" movement is opposed to returning to the "colonial past".
"In view of the above mentioned, we strongly demand the denunciation of the Customs Union and the restoration of the former Customs Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan! In case of neglect of the above requirements, we intend to commit acts of civil protest, and raise the question of the resignation of the country's leadership and an early presidential and parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan ", - the message delivered tough ultimatum.
The statement has been signed by famous Kazakhstani people:
• Mukhtar Shakhanov (Chairman of the organizing committee, the Chairman of the public movement "State Language" and the unregistered party "Halyk Rukhy (National Sirit)");
• Gaziz Aldamzharov (on behalf of the opposition Communist Party of Kazakhstan);
• Zharmakhan Tuyakbai and Bolat Abilov (Co-chairpersons of NSDP "Azat" Party)
• Vladimir Kozlov - the leader of the unregistered opposition party "Alga."
But so far none of the protesters had received a feedback. Apparently, the government did not take such statements seriously.
